Make Your Own Sweater Crochet Class

Learn to crochet your own sweater! We will be using the Granny Pop Pullover Pattern by MJ’s Off the Hook Design Inc. This is a fun and simple design that is worked seamlessly from the top down. A great introduction into sweater crocheting!

Dates: Thursdays at 6:30pm November 6-December 18th (excluding 11/27) 

Six classes total

Time: 6:30-7:30pm

Location: First Baptist Church Edwardsville

Cost: $80 per participant total for 6 week course. Participants will need to purchase yarn and crochet hooks prior to first class.

About the Class:

This course will take you through crocheting a sweater from the top down. Each week will focus on a different part of the sweater. This is considered an advanced-beginner/intermediate course. Basic knowledge of crochet stitches (single crochet, double crochet, chain stitch, slip stitch) and crocheting tension is recommended. 

***This class will require work outside of the class to be ready for the next step each week

Class Schedule:

Week 1 (11/6): Stitch review, crocheting the collar 

Week 2 (11/13): Crocheting the Sweater Yoke

Week 3 (11/20): Crocheting the Body

No class 11/27

Week 4 (12/4): Crocheting the Sleeves

Week 5 (12/11): Crocheting the Sleeve and Body cuffs

Week 6 (12/18): Finishing and blocking

Materials: 

Pattern: Granny Pop Pullover Pattern by MJ’s Off the Hook Design (included in class purchase)

Crochet Hooks: Size G/7 (4.5mm) hook and Size H/8 (5mm) hook

Yarn: DK weight 3 yarn or Worsted weight 4 yarn in the quantity provided by the pattern for your size. 

I recommend the following:

  • Lion Brand Mandala (weights 3 or 4)- available at Walmart

  • Caron Cakes (weight 4) - available at Michaels

  • Tom Daley Made with Love The Cottony One- available at Michaels

  • I Love This Cotton Yarn- Available at Hobby Lobby

  • Or any weight 3 or 4 yarn that will be comfortable on your skin

Other notions: stitch markers, tapestry needle, measuring tape, scissors.
